Shepherding, An Honorable Profession

Jesus claimed to be the Good shepherd. Not only in the Bible but from Egyptian and Mesopotamian records we learn that the rulers are referred to as the shepherd of the people.

  1. Dear Ferrell,

I am working through your Studies in the Book of Revelation, and I very much appreciate the explanations, perspective, and history you have presented. This is especially useful since I am in two non-denominational group studies that tend to teach a more futurist viewpoint.

On page 26, you mentioned an article I would really like to read, but I am not sure how to find it. It is an article by “Scherrer” in the Journal of Biblical Literature. No other information on Scherrer (first name, etc) was given, and the only information I found on the Journal indicates it is either multi-volumes or it is a periodical. I don’t have the resources or the physical space for an entire set, especially if it is the incorrect “journal”.

Is it possible to attach a link to the article you cited? Or direct me to a particular volume and full name of the author so I could check with a library?

Thank you so much for any help you can give.

    Sincerely,
    Kathy George

  2. I see the image is from Nazareth Village, where I was a volunteer guide/re-enactor on occasion in their early days, ca. 2001-2003. I was even pressed into service as a (clueless) shepherd once–I followed them wherever they went, but still got rear-ended by one feisty critter…
